Consisting of more than a thousand islands, stunning underwater coral gardens and dazzling azure and turquoise lagoons, the Maldives is a tropical delight. Situated southwest of Sri Lanka and on the equator, year-round warmth is guaranteed. As only around a fifth of the islands are inhabited, there is lots of scope for sun-kissed seclusion and privacy.
Abundant and diverse marine life makes this location one of the best for snorkelling and diving in the world. In fact, the visibility can reach as much as 50 metres.
If you prefer not to get wet there are alternative breathtaking wildlife spectacles to be enjoyed. Boasting more than 20 species of whale and dolphin, including the rare Dwarf Sperm Whale and Melon-Headed Whale, the Maldives has become known as one of the world’s premier areas for whale- and dolphin-watching.
