There is a whole world of holiday delights contained within the borders of the USA. It has mountains to match anything in Europe, beaches to rival those of Spain and Portugal, plus blue seas as good as those in Turkey and Greece. Of course, this is not to forget the vast wealth of sunshine.
Florida is one of the USA’s sunshine-and-fun states, having some of the best beaches in the world and the best-known theme parks, among other attractions.
Florida has two different coasts. The eastern shore is the Atlantic, with long, wide, child-friendly beaches. Major resort areas on this side of Florida are Daytona Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Miami Beach and Palm Beach. This area is known as the Gold Coast, an appropriate name for a vast stretch of golden beaches, of which Palm Beach is perhaps the best known. The sea is warm and clear, making this area popular with boat-lovers and divers alike.
Further on down the coast is Miami, with over half of its population Hispanic – where international street scenes are peppered with the flavours and energy of Latin America.
Over on the west side of the Sunshine State is the more placid Gulf of Mexico, where the blue, clear waters are a paradise for those who love water sports. Superb beaches can be found at Captiva, Clearwater, Naples, Sanibbel, Sarasota and St Petersburg.
With a warm climate, clean blue water and tropical coral islands, you can see why people choose to visit America’s ‘ Sunshine State’.
